This paper studies the GIVE-type ditransitive constructions of Puxian dialect, using the north-eastern Jiangkou variety as the main study subject. Firstly, we provided a more detailed description of Jiangkou’s ditransitive constructions. Secondly, we analyzed the interaction of ditransitive constructions and Jiangkou’s general purpose GIVE verb keʔ32 and general purpose TAKE verb iau53 respectively. We found that keʔ32 is compatible with the type-A DOC only. While iau53 is compatible with more ditransitive constructions. It could be that, on top of the meaning TAKE, iau53 is capable of expressing GIVE as well. Next, using the Jiangkou phonological data which we investigated and existing data of the surrounding Min varieties, we investigated the etymology of keʔ32 and iau53. The appropriate word for keʔ32 should be“乞”, while that of iau53 is still unknown.
