Abstract: A new wave making system was developed to generate progressive waves in centrifuge. Silicon oil of 50 Cst was used as pore fluid to match the time scaling law at 50 g. Loose sand beds were prepared by pouring sand into silicon oil. It was found that under severe wave loading the loose fine sand bed underwent liquefaction and large settlement occurred. The loose sand bed was densified to dense sand bed and new wave loadings were applied to investigate the oscillating response in the dense sand bed. The magnitude of pore pressure developed decreased with depth and a phase lag was also observed and the experimentally measured pore pressure response was compared with the solution by Hsu and Jeng (1994)
