Abstract: The present work attempts to study the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of PIM oblique finned microchannel heat sink both numerically and experimentally. Experimental results such as thermal resistance and pressure drop have been well validated with ANSYS FLUENT simulations. Hot spots are observed at the most downstream location of the channel is due to the effect of flow migration. Finally, a novel technique has been proposed to reduce the pressure drop on creating additional channels by removing some material at the middle portion of oblique fins. It is found that the creation of oblique cuts incurred a reduction in both pressure drop and Nuavg up to 31.36 % and 16.66 % respectively at a flow rate of 500 ml/min. Nevertheless, for all the flowrates considered in this analysis. % reduction in pressure drop is almost double as compared with % reduction in Nuavg. Therefore, this analysis is beneficial in reducing the additional cost incurs due to pressure drop penalty.
