MECHANISTIC INSIGHTS INTO ELECTROCHEMICAL WATER SPLITTING AND CO2 REDUCTION REACTIONS USING OPERANDO RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Electrolysis of water and carbon dioxide (CO2) using solar-generated electricity is a sustainable way to produce important fuels such as hydrogen, hydrocarbons and alcohols. The processes involve three major reactions: hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), CO2 electroreduction and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Numerous efforts have been made to develop catalysts with high performances, low costs and high stabilities. During the development process, identification of the active sites provides a fundamental understanding on the catalytic performances of electrodes and therefore helps in the design of a new class of efficient, earth-abundant and economical catalysts. Raman spectroscopy, an established vibrational spectroscopic technique, is particularly useful for operando measurements during electrolysis since it shows high sensitivity to surface structural changes and surface-adsorbed species while exhibiting a low cross section of the water media. In this work, we have probed different catalysts for OER, HER and CO2 reduction reactions through operando Raman spectroscopy. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/136619 |
