Abstract: This research project aimed to implement health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments originated from Western countries in Singapore. After cultural adaptation, Singaporean English or Chinese versions of the EuroQol-5D self-report questionnaire (EQ-5D), the Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36), the Health Utilities Index Mark 3 (HUI3), and/or the Schizophrenia Quality of Life Scale (SQLS) were administered to Singaporean individuals of various health status. Psychometric properties of the EQ-5D, HUI3 and SQLS were assessed using data from Singaporeans with rheumatic diseases, schizophrenia, or the general population. HRQoL in Singaporeans with schizophrenia/ anxiety disorders was assessed using the SF-36, SQLS and/or HUI3. All these instruments were well accepted by study subjects and appeared to be valid and/or reliable. HRQoL in Singaporeans with schizophrenia/ anxiety disorders was poor and was associated with both severity of symptoms and subjectsa?? sociodemographic status. In conclusion, these culturally adapted HRQoL instruments are useful outcome measures in Singapore.
