Abstract

With his prolific writing in poetry and prose, Yu Guangzhong is a central figure in modern Chinese literature. The search for a spiritual homeland has always been an integral part of Yu Guangzhonga??s writing. This thesis has utilized the theory of home to argue that Yua??s perpetual quest for home and his continued writing are faces of a same coin. Yu has transformed his vast life experience of exile into an unquenchable thirst for home in his writing but since this home is non-existent in reality, Yu has resorted to writing as a final home of refuge. Through writing, Yu has realized his own cherished dream of homecoming.
