Abstract: Suction Embedded Plate Anchor (SEPLA) has been widely employed in offshore industry due to its advantages of relatively low cost and accurate positioning. Centrifuge experiments have been conducted in the present study to investigate the pull-out behaviour of plate anchors in normally consolidated clay. The capacity of anchors with different shapes under monotonic, sustained and repeated loading was examined. The effect of SEPLA installation process is also identified. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique is employed to study soil flow mechanisms in different conditions. It is observed that soil keeps attached with anchor base during monotonic pull-out, but separates with anchor under sustained load with loading level above 49%. After prior sustained loading with the loading level not higher than the critical value of 83%, anchor capacity increases. After installation process, anchor capacity under monotonic loading decreases in the short term, but increases in the long term.
