Keywords: | Chinese textbook, authenticity, communication, language acquisition, Tomasello's theory, teaching materials | Issue Date: | 19-Jan-2015 | Citation: | 王颖, WANG YING (2015-01-19). 华语教材真实性编写原则研究 = DESIGNING AUTHENTICITY INTO CHINESE TEXTBOOK. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | In this research, I first question the prevailing definitions of authentic texts. I argue that a more practical and important definition for authentic texts, especially in a setting that treats Chinese as a second language, should focus on the original communicative purpose in the texts. I propose that we can treat the textbook as a communication act. Chapter 3 develops an analyze framework of authenticity based on Michael Tomasello's human communication theory, cultural ecology of human cognition and usage-based theory of language acquisition. Chapter 4 applies Tomasello's theory and the analytic framework of authenticity to two series of Chinese child textbooks: Easy steps to Chinese for kids, Hello, Chinese!. Chapter 5 concludes with a summary, provided suggestions and possible developments of authenticity in language textbook design. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/135463 |
