Abstract: Platinum-based anticancer drug namely cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin has been the corner stone in cancer chemotherapy for the past decades. However, their toxicities and severe side-effects due to premature aquation and non-specific targeting impede their application in cancer treatment. In view of this, a more stable platinum(IV) prodrug strategy has been proposed to circumvent these limitations. The additional axial ligands enables fine-tuning of physicochemical and biological properties in view of improving the efficacies. In this presentation, we describe the findings in the relationship between physicochemical and biological properties of platinum(IV) complexes in cancer cell lines, and their antitumor effect in animal model.
