Abstract: Surfactants are generally used as wetting agents in different EN plating bath, however the structure-functionality relationship of various surfactants in the EN bath have not yet been studied comprehensively. In this study, surfactant effects in the EN bath are differentiated into four respects: plating rate; morphology of deposited film; anti-corrosion capability; and composition and therefore annealing crystallinity of the deposited film. The characterizations of Ni-P deposits were done by using SEM, EDX, AFM, XRD and Autolab. It was found that addition of surfactants with suitable structure and concentration into a plating bath can improve surface morphology and corrosion resistance as well as increased the deposition rate. In addition, the polymerization of PANI on porous EN is studied as the applications of EN deposits. The morphology and composition of PANI on EN deposits were examined by AFM, SEM and EDX analysis. Autolab PGSTAT20 and GPES, FRA are used to perform the electrochemical measurements of the PANI-metal layers.
