Abstract: A very important area of magnetic technology today is the study of small ferromagnetic elements for application in magnetoelectronic devices. The mechanism of magnetization reversal processes can be strongly modified by tailoring the structure of ferromagnetic elements. In this project a novel device geometry consisting of laterally defined Co/ Ni80Fe20 wires lying side by side is fabricated and characterized. The new geometry is suitable with a slight modification for investigating lateral magnetic tunneling junction (LMTJ). Magnetotransport measurements were carried out on the devices at low temperature. In another experiment exchange bias effects is investigated in single layer ferromagnetic wire array by naturally oxidizing the top surface and the side walls of the wires. Finally the magnetotransport properties of single ferromagnetic nanowires is investigated in order to show the finite size effect at low temperatures.
