EXPLORING VOLUNTEERED GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION WITH DATA QUALITY CONTROL FOR INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Volunteered geographic information (VGI), the information sourced from the platforms for interactive geospatial data production and consumption fostered by Web 2.0 technologies, have enabled spatial decision-making at a much larger spatial scale and faster temporal scale. In the field of integrated pest management (IPM), utilizing VGI has been suggested as a means to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of IPM due to its inherent advantages in information collection and dissemination. However, current VGI-based IPM has been limited to a primitive conceptual framework with three components–information collection, sense making (VGI mining), and dissemination. This thesis addresses several issues related to VGI-based IPM by examining how IPM can be more effective through mining VGI, how to assure VGI quality for IPM, what are the roles of volunteers in VGI-based IPM, and how to keep volunteers engaged. By addressing these issues, the thesis further contributes an enhanced conceptual framework for VGI-based IPM. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/134685 |
