Abstract: A chiral sensor based on a 10 MHz quartz crystal microbalance deposited with mercaptyl functionalized beta-cyclodextrins was fabricated and its performance was evaluated. Its chiral discrimination towards the selected non-racemic analytes was assessed in both the gas phase and aqueous media. In the gas phase improved chiral discrimination and excellent long-term durability of the chiral coating were depicted by this sensor owing to the ordered arrangement of the enantioselective elements at the surface and the unique design. Online analysis of enantiomeric composition in the mixture was also realized on this chiral sensor. Moreover, the influence of the cavity size of beta-cyclodextrins, the monolayer structure, and the size of analytes on the host-guest interactions and the corresponding chiral discrimination was discussed in detail. The thermodynamic study in the gas phase revealed the compensatory relationship of enantioselective enthalpy and entropy.
