Abstract: Pile-soil-tunnel interaction is an engineering problem more and more commonly encountered in practice, however, studies on the interaction between tunnel and piles (particularly a pile group) under loading are not found in the literature. In this research, the behavior of tunnel due to loading on single pile is investigated with three-dimensional Finite Element analysis via ABAQUS; emphasis is placed on the effect of debonding. For some practical soil profiles concerned, it is found its effect is small. With a combination of finite element analyses and dimensional method, simple approaches are then developed for estimating the single pile-induced maximum settlement and settlements of tunnel along longitudinal direction; debonding of the pile is not considered. Base on the above studies together with a superposition method, a novel method, of which the applicability is proved by case studies, is then proposed to predict maximum tunnel settlement induced by pile group.
