dc.description.abstractA total of 334 fatal industrial accidents were studied. Of these, 232 (69.5%) were Singaporeans and 102 (30.5%) were foreigners. The Standardised Mortality Ratio for non citizens was 246.6% whereas the Standardised Mortality Ratio of citizens was 79.3%. The Industries Standardised Accident fatality Ratio for non citizens was 246.0%, and that for the citizens was 79.4%. 47.0% of the non citizens died within four weeks of employment compared to 19.6% of the citizens. The overall differences in periods of employment, prior to the fatal accidents, between citizens and non citizens were statistically significant (X2=22.97 at 7 df;p
