Abstract: The linear and nonlinear dielectric susceptibilities in the incommensurate phase for which the thermodynamic potential includes no Lifshitz invariant has been calculated within the single wave approximation. It has turned out that the amplitude mode in the incommensurate phase can be detected by measuring the third-order nonlinear dielectric susceptibility. © 1998 OPA (Overseas Publishers Association) N.V.
