Argues that the term "overseas Indians" is not easily applicable to many people of Indian ancestry born in Singapore. The postwar demographic, social, political, & ideological changes that have led many Indians living in Singapore to see themselves as Singaporean are examined, including stabilization of the Indian population, Singapore's entry into the Federation of Malaya, its independence in 1965, educational & other forms of national integration, an official policy of ethnic equality, Indian political participation, language policies, & the development of multiethnic communities. It is concluded that many second- to fifth-generation Indian Singaporeans are fully integrated citizens. E. Blackwell.
