Title: | Impersonal Passives in Icelandic | Authors: | Yamaguchi, T. | Issue Date: | 2000 | Citation: | Yamaguchi, T. (2000). Impersonal Passives in Icelandic. Linguistica 40 (1) : 151-169. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This paper argues that Icelandic impersonal passives have a constructional property that expresses generic events. After having demonstrated their basic characteristics, it is shown that the notion of "activity" is inadequate for the explanation of why the construction is licensed. The behavior of the adverbial ser me(eth)vitandi is diagnosed to show indefiniteness tied up with the construction. | Source Title: | Linguistica | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/132363 | ISSN: | 00243922 |
