Argues that the predicted increase in the number of elderly people has to be taken seriously in future housing planning in Singapore. Whereas the multigenerational extended family has always been the cornerstone of housing policy in Southeast Asia, future generations will see changes in this pattern. The need for a wider range of more specialized forms of housing & care for the aged is currently under discussion. Initiatives to provide for these needs are outlined, & how problems in both new & upgraded housing are being addressed is discussed.
