|Abstract:||Argues that appropriate science policy can play a catalytic role in the development of countries trying to catch up with the developed nations. Drawing on the experience of Singapore's development, it is argued that forward-looking leadership & a rational policy framework with regard to the development of appropriate science & technology in Singapore played a crucial role in its development. Careful planning & successful implementation of various strategies paid off in terms of a viable science-technology structure that secures Singapore's development even in times of regional uncertainties. A relevant issue is sociological knowledge on policy & processes.|
