dc.description.abstract | Examined is the complex interplay between thinking & writing as it is discussed in the research. Initially the quality of thinking controls the writing process, but then writing begins to assume control & symbiosis results wherein each enriches the other. The essential difference between the skilled & unskilled writer is the perception of the task being created. Unskilled writers reduce each task to a simpler, less demanding problem, & spend most energy on finding the words of expression to put onto paper. Their knowledge base remains unchanged. Skilled writers find each task complex & demanding, recreating the knowledge base in the writing. A previous experiment is described to illustrate these differences. The cognitive-academic functions of learning have not been given the attention necessary in education to produce thinking students. J. Mayberry. | |
