Abstract: The performance of the Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) technology was investigated for treating municipal wastewater at 16, 8, 6 and 4 h hydraulic retention Time (HRT) operation, respectively. The treatment efficiencies of the UASB decreased as HRT decreased and the optimum operating HRT found ranged between 6-8hrs. Removal efficiencies of about 60% were obtained for suspended solids and organics present in the wastewater. The UASB also achieved between 49 b
