Abstract: This thesis is a comparative study of Chinese National Product Movements in China and in British Malaya from 1912 to 1941. By comparing the aim, method and identity of Chinese National Product Movements, it shows that Chinese National Product Movements were on one hand similar, but they were on the other hand different due to their own local contexts, identities and interests. Regarding their aims, Chinese National Product Movements in China and in British Malaya had the same aim to improve Chinese economy and to boycott foreign products. However, their initial purposes were different because of interests and circumstances. As for the methods applied, although most approaches of propaganda and organizations in Chinese National Product Movements in China had appeared in British Malaya, their effects and impacts were slightly different due to circumstances. As to identities, both of them were affected deeply by Chinese nationalism, but they are also influenced by their own local identities and interests which made them different from each other.
