dc.description.abstract | Role-based shared leadership is a team property whereby team leadership roles are distributed among team members. The conceptualization and operationalization of this concept are still under-developed, and the existing literature provides very limited knowledge regarding how it influences team creativity. In the current research, I develop and validate a comprehensive measure of role-based shared leadership using a social network approach. I further propose a model that explains the underlying process through which and boundary conditions in which role-based shared leadership spawns team creativity. I tested the proposed model using multi-source data collected from 542 team members and their immediate leaders in 121 work teams in China. Results show that role-based shared leadership promoted team creativity through team learning. Moreover, this indirect effect was attenuated by team task interdependence such that the indirect effect was weaker in teams with higher task interdependence. My research contributes to shared leadership literature by identifying both the configuration and content of the leadership shared by team members and by explicating how and when role-based shared leadership influences team creativity. | |
