dc.description.abstract | THREE APPROACHES HAVE BEEN PROPOSED TO REDUCE OR CAPTURE THE CO2 EMISSION FROM COAL-FIRED OR NATURAL GAS BASED POWER GENERATION PROCESSES, INCLUDING POST-COMBUSTION CO2/N2 SEPARATION, NATURAL GAS SWEETENING (CO2/CH4) AND OXY-COMBUSTION (O2/N2). TO IMPROVE THE GAS SEPARATION PERFORMANCE OF POLYMERIC MEMBRANES, TWO TYPES OF MIXED MATRIX MEMBRANES (MMMS) HAVE BEEN FABRICATED BY INCORPORATING EITHER INORGANIC FILLERS OR ORGANIC FILLERS. THE EFFECTS OF ZEOLITIC IMIDAZOLATE FRAMEWORK-8 (ZIF-8) IN MISCIBLE ROOM TEMPERATURE IONIC LIQUID (RTIL) BLEND SYSTEMS WERE INVESTIGATED. MMMS CONSISTING OF ZIF-71 AND PIM-1 WITH AND WITHOUT ULTRAVIOLET (UV) IRRADIATION FOR VARIOUS GAS SEPARATIONS WERE ALSO STUDIED. BOTH SYSTEMS HAVE IMPROVED GAS SEPARATION PERFORMANCE ESPECIALLY FOR O2/N2 AND CO2/CH4. THEN PIM-1 WAS APPLIED AS ORGANIC FILLER TO IMPROVE THE GAS TRANSPORT PROPERTIES OF A LOW PERMEABLE MATERIAL ULTEM.
