Within the framework of memory studies, this thesis examines the reception and worship of Wen Tianxiang (1236-1283) in Late Imperial China, by focusing on various sites of memory related to Wen. At the turn of the Fifteenth-century, the reception of Wen ascent to greater heights, which is evident from the widespread of places of worship that were dedicated to Wen. Why was this so? How did the worship of Wen spread? Among various religious spaces that Wen is enshrined, this thesis focuses on those that are located in two major regions: first Jiangxi, the hometown of Wen; second, the route of the Song refugee court, which is a culturally defined region and a symbolic site of memory. This thesis argues that along with state sanction and transregional interaction, various forms of memories that are unique to each locality propagate the widespread reception and worship of Wen.
