Abstract: Economic dispatch (ED) is an important problem in power system operations. With the increasing environmental concerns, the traditional power system is facing a problem of increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs). The thesis starts investigating the ED problem from the micro-grid islanding operations by two multi-objective optimization algorithms. Furthermore, the thesis investigates the ED problem of the distribution network with distributed energy resources. Additionally, the thesis proposed a novel consensus based algorithm to solve ED problem in a distributed manner. On top of that, the thesis improves the existing distributed ED algorithm in literature by bringing loss information into consideration.
