Abstract: Context-aware computing is a typical paradigm of ubiquitous computing and a well-designed context data management system is crucial. In order to develop a better context data management system, we address three important issues in this thesis. First, we define the concept of mobile space to model and represent mobile context sources. The mobile physical space gateway (MPSG) framework is developed to manage context data of mobile spaces. Secondly, in order to provide a better interface for context information access, we design the SQL-based context query language. As a result, context request can be better represented and developers are decoupled from context management details. Thirdly, in order to handle compound context queries, a divide-and-conquer methodology is utilized to convert each compound context query into a tree of simple queries processed separately. In addition, a distributed context processing mechanism is developed to handle simultaneous context queries.
