Abstract: LINEAR P-EXTENDED ACENE DERIVATIVES SUCH AS PENTACENE HAVE BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BE VERY GOOD CHARGE TRANSPORTING MATERIALS. FURTHERMORE, ACENES CAN BE REGARDED AS A MODEL OF ZIGZAG-EDGED GRAPHENE NANORIBBONS. HIGHER MOBILITIES ARE EXPECTED FOR THE EVEN HIGHER ORDER ACENES (E.G., HEXACENE AND HEPTACENE), BUT THEIR INTRINSIC HIGH REACTIVITY LIMITED THEIR SYNTHESIS AND MATERIAL APPLICATIONS. RECENTLY, PENTALENE AS AN ANTIAROMATIC 4NP-ELECTRON SYSTEM HAS ATTRACTED MANY CHEMISTS? ATTENTION. FURTHER CHEMICAL MODIFICATIONS OF THE AROMATIC UNITS-FUSED PENTALENES WOULD PROVIDE NEW MATERIALS WITH TUNABLE PROPERTIES AND ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS. CONSEQUENTLY, PENTALENE MOIETY IS INCORPORATED INTO THE ACENE OR THIENOACENE FRAMEWORK, THE WEAK INTRAMOLECULAR DONOR-ACCEPTOR INTERACTION BETWEEN THE ANTIAROMATIC PENTALENE AND THE ANNEALED AROMATIC MOIETIES AFFORD THEIR UNIQUE ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES.
