Abstract: Electrolyte plays an important role in performance of lithium ion batteries. To reduce the problem of concentration polarization problem and increase cationic transference number, the concept of single ion conducting electrolyte was coined. In this thesis, a series of new polymer and three dimensional network based single ion conducting electrolytes are designed, successfully. The utility of these electrolytes in lithium ion batteries is demonstrated by assembling several coin cells equipped with these electrolytes, followed by the analysis of these cells¿ performance, in association with other material and electrochemical characterizations. All the electrolytes synthesized during the study showed reasonable high ionic conductivity and battery performance with high thermal stability. In addition, some methods to achieving both single ion conduction and porosity together in a single electrolyte, are also established.
