Abstract: Self-alignment of quantum dots separated by spacer layers is investigated using a 3D finite element method. The calculation results show the buried island arrangement, the spacer layer thickness, and the interruption time are crucial to the subsequent island alignment. Simulations demonstrate that top islands may self-assemble into more uniform and regular arrangements.
