Abstract: A study was conducted to demonstrate the formation of highly ordered C 60 molecular-chain arrays, using αsexithiophene (6T) monolayer nanostripes on Ag(111) as a molecular surface nanotemplate. It was found that the C60 molecular chain array was due to the balance between the molecule-molecule interactions. The study was conducted in a home-built multichamber ultrahigh-vacuum system installed in an Omicron low temperature-scanning electron microscopy (LT-STM). The STM was operated with a Nanonis controller, while the AG(111) substrate was cleaned by repeated Ar+ sputtering and annealing cycles to 800 K. The αsexithiophene and C 60 molecules were thermally evaporated from low-temperature Knudsen cells in the growth chamber.
