Abstract: In this paper, a Network-Assisted Joint Power/Packet Control (NAJPPC) scheme is proposed to achieve the uplink power efficiency and high packet throughput in a DS-CDMA based wireless data system. Specifically, it maximizes a utility function for each terminal and the overall system packet throughput simultaneously by adjusting the target signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in the basestation receiver and the packet segmentation length in the wireless link according to the existing number of active mobile users. Computer simulation has shown the proposed scheme gives significant improvement in the power utilization and system throughput, especially when the system loading is high.
