Abstract: A broadband monopole antenna with a parasitic planar thin conductive element placed in parallel with the monopole is presented. The measured impedance bandwidth reaches up to 1:8. The impedance performance is improved due to the strong electromagnetic coupling between the monopole and the parasitic element. The parasitic element acts as a reactive load for the improvement of the input impedance of the monopole antenna.
