Abstract: The design of frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) with double-square-loop patch elements using the differential evolution strategy coupled with an equivalent circuit model (ECM) is proposed in this paper. A very efficient optimization algorithm, the differential evolution strategy is employed to tune the FSS unit-cell dimensions. In the fast computational method, the equivalent-circuit model is also employed to analyze the electromagnetic scattering from the FSS screen. The simulated results are in good agreement with the measured results. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
