Abstract: The two point boundary value problem, y double prime equals (2m plus 1 plus t**2)y, y(0) equals beta , y( infinity ) equals 0, where m and beta are specified constants, now known as Holt's problem is a typical example of a problem for which the usual shooting methods fail. The authors present a formulation of a new shooting method for first order linear differential systems together with multipoint boundary conditions and demonstrate how well it works for Holt's problem.
