Abstract: Pseudobagrus nubilosus, new species, is described from the Song Vinh Tranh river drainage in central Vietnam. It is easily distinguished from congeners in having fewer branched anal-fin rays (9-10 vs. 13-22) and a unique combination of: dorsal-spine length 14.0-16.9 % SL, pectoral-spine length 13.6-16.7 % SL, length of adipose-fin base 10.6-14.3 % SL, smooth anterior edge of the pectoral spine, and a color pattern consisting of cream blotches on a brown body. The evidence for Pelteobagrus and Pseudobagrus as natural groups is also reviewed and discussed. Pelteobagrus is hereby considered a junior synonym of Pseudobagrus. © 2007 by Verlag Dr. Friedrich Pfeil.
